Help us to raise $10,000 to support on-the-ground indigenous river defenders in Bolivia

In 2020, you so generously helped us raise more than $13,000 to meet the urgent needs of indigenous Amazonian communities of Bolivia as a result of the pandemic: providing food, medicine, and crop seeds for villages that were in isolation and had no means to acquire basic materials. We are returning to you with the second part of their request. Please help us raise funds for transportation and communication for the Commonwealth of the Beni River Basin Communities (the Manco) to meet and discuss their defense strategy. The Bolivian government is re-considering the Chepete-Bala Hydroelectric Project which was rejected in 2019. They are also pushing forward new industrial mining and logging projects in what is considered the most biodiverse national park in the world in the world: Madidi. The Manco is a grassroots organization with members and leaders from Moseten, Uchupiamona, Tacana, Ese Ejja, and Tsiman nations, all of whom are dedicated to defending their communities and ancestral territories, which are also critical biodiversity hotspots. Thanks to them, the Beni River still remains dam-free, and mercury poisoning from rampant legal and illegal gold mining is finally getting international attention. Please contribute what you can, and/or share this fundraiser.
